My first bulb lasted almost two years. I was initially going to just replace the bulb and not the housing. I paid a little more for the housing too. Upon pulling out the old one, it was broken in multiple places and the plastic was worn down and brittle. I'm glad I went with the whole new housing unit. It popped right in and started up with no problems. I would recommend buying replacement air filters as well. Unless you are a certified electrician, I do not recommend attempting to disassemble the housing unit to replace just the bulb. Spend the extra few dollars and save yourself the heartache. It's been about three months now and it hasn't failed me yet.
