Product Description

The Kestrel mobile electric floor-rising screen is designed for executive presentations, formal functions or residential home theater rooms that require a flexible alternative to fixed wall or ceiling-mounted installations. Elite’s Kestrel measures 84 or 100 inches diagonally in either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. It has a stylish piano gloss finish and plug and play design using Elite’s 1.1 Gain MaxWhite FG fiberglass-backed material. The screen’s cross-rising apparatus is driven by a tubular motor with a superior weight tolerance and operational lifespan with variable height settings. Each unit has a built in 5-12V trigger along with Infrared and Radio Frequency (RF) receivers. Both an RF remote and a ZR800D IR universal learning remote are included. The RF remote provides a superior range of wireless operation while the ZR800D allows simultaneous screen operation with up to eight different media devices.

This Elite screen is a great product, but it is expensive. My situation is that I wanted a home theater screen without having to re-engineer the living room. I looked at manual and electric ceiling/wall mounted screens but it would have meant some serious engineering work to get the job done right. I then looked at manual floor mounted screens, from Elite, Da-Lite. They all use either the scissor or single mount system. They all worked well, however once you get up to larger screen sizes, I found the screen would either tip forward or have pretty significant waves in the screen which isn't ideal. My last chance was this floor mounted electric screen. Whereas the manual floor screens are quite light and portable, this screen isn't. Its heavy ... which is a good and bad thing. Its good, in that the screen is very stable, no waves and no tipping. Bad if you plan to move it around. You can, and it does have a handle, but still heavy :-)

Is it worth the price .. ? Yes, and No. For me there really wasn't any more alternatives. Your mileage may vary however.

As for image and quality. Well that also depends on your projector, but I'm using it with a Panasonic PT-AE4000 and the image is absolutely superb!

Item was delivered on time.
There was a problem with the lamp casing. Lens retainer clip was deformed although there were no visible damages to cardboard box were the lamp was stored. Solved this problem using bracket from the old lamp.
As some customers noted there was some chemical odor from the lamp when it was turned on for the first time, not horrible but noticeable nonetheless. After a few hours it did get better. And after a couple of days or so I couldn't tell is there.
Lamp is bright - no problems at this side.
So generally speaking I'm content with my purchase.

This is a quality-built mount that will suit the vast majority of folks who purchase it. It's simple, easy to install and affordable. But it could have been *perfect* had the manufacturers had the foresight to drill bolt holes in all 4 sides of each end of the extension (or at least 1 end). That would have turned this mount into a fully-adjustable joint extension (pitch, roll and yaw). With that said, if you have an aluminum-capable drill and some guts, you can do it yourself. But not everyone does, and it would have been simple to do it during manufacturing.
